States Defy Ban On Religious Activities For Sallah Celebration.

The lockdown order and compulsory ban on religious gatherings as a result of the Covid19 pandemic was violated by some states in the country on Sunday, while marking the end of the Eid-el-Fitr festival.

Recall that the Sultan of Sokoto Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar had urged all Muslims to pray in their homes to mark the end of the fasting season as any public gathering could result to a spike in coronavirus infections in the country.

In a flagrant disregard of this order, a number of large religious gatherings was seen in some northern states amid the covid19 situation to celebrate the Sallah festival.

States like Kano, Borno, Kogi, Bayelsa opened their mosque to faithfuls to pray together while claiming to observe the public health guidelines such as social/physical distancing, wearing face mask etc.
