President Muhammadu Buhari congratulates Evariste Ndayishimiye on becoming the President of Burundi after a swearing-in ceremony on Thursday in Gitega, Burundi.
Buhari’s congratulatory message was conveyed in a statement released by Malam Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assitant on Media and Publicity, in Abuja on Thursday.
Buhari also complimented the Government and people of Burundi on the historic peaceful transition to a democratically elected government, after the sudden death of President Pierre Nkurunziza.
President Buhari remarked that, with a resounding victory at the polls, President Ndayishimiye, is capable of integrating democracy in the east African country.
Ndayishimiye who was the former Secretary-General of the ruling CNDD-FDD party, played an active role in piloting the country on the path of peace and development.
President Buhari said he is looking forward to work with the new Burundian leader and his government to strengthen the cordial relationship between the two countries.
